From Dry Skin to Devotion: The Story Behind Hope for Skin
Hi, I’m Hope — a mom, a veteran, and the heart behind Hope for Skin Body Butter. I created this business out of love, prayer, and the belief that the products we use on our bodies should be as gentle, nourishing, and trustworthy as the hands that made them.
The Beginning: Moisture as Armor
My skincare story starts back in middle and high school in Colorado, where the air is so dry, cracked skin was just a part of life. Moisturizing became my ritual — not just for softness, but for survival and self-worth. I used lotion multiple times a day, treating it like armor against the bullying and harshness I faced. I carried different lotions in my bag, my locker, my pockets — each one chosen for a reason: smell, sparkle, moisture, or just the comfort of a routine.
That routine taught me something: moisture is care, and care is power.
Falling in Love with Butters
Toward the end of high school, I discovered body butter. The thick, creamy texture felt luxurious — like a hug in a jar. But back then, it was expensive and hard to find, so I cherished it whenever I received it as a gift.
When I joined the Army at 19, I couldn’t bring my beloved butters with me. Later, stationed far from home, I started dreaming about making my own — but the cost of shipping ingredients and the demands of military life put that dream on pause.
After I left the Army, I started experimenting with homemade hair products. But every time I rubbed a butter or oil into my skin, I felt something deeper — a healing, a return, a joy. I began wondering if I could create a body butter that was thick, luxurious, and deeply moisturizing — without added water, emulsifiers, or synthetic fillers.
And then, I became a mom.
A Mother’s Mission
When my daughter was about 18 months old, two things happened. Her skin became dry, bumpy, and itchy — and she started eating the store-bought lotions I was using on her.
That was my wake-up call.
I realized that even the “sensitive skin” brands weren’t giving us the moisture or safety we needed. I dug out my ingredients and started making body butter again — unscented, simple, edible-safe. Within one day, I saw her skin improve. And mine too.
I gave some to my mom, grandma, and cousin. They loved it. I got bold, added colors and scents, and started selling them — and people loved those too. But problems followed. The colors were inconsistent. Some scents irritated sensitive skin. And when people stored the butter in the shower, it started to mold.
That’s when I knew: if I was going to share this product, it had to be better. Safer. Thoughtful. Trustworthy.
The Turning Point
I stopped selling. I kept making it for my own family, quietly researching preservatives and testing better methods. I prayed with every batch. I believed healing should be intentional, and nothing is more intentional — or powerful — than prayer.
Years passed. My daughter’s skin flared up again. I tried everything on the market — nothing worked. She would wake up at night clawing at her skin, crying from the itch. I knew I had to make my butter again. I made a batch. It worked.
Then something beautiful happened — my family and friends asked for more. They hadn’t forgotten it. They hadn’t found anything better. That’s when I realized:
Hope for Skin wasn’t just my product anymore. It belonged to my community, too.
Why I Do This
I created Hope for Skin for women — especially mamas — who want better. Who want to give themselves and their loved ones something safe, effective, and deeply nourishing.
I don’t make this butter to cut corners or compete on price. I make it to be worth it — worth every dollar, every prayer, every drop of care that goes into it. Because our skin tells a story. And I want mine — and yours — to tell a story of healing, intention, and love.
So welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.
— With love,
Mama Hope
